MDAC 2.8 SP1 won't install

I'm trying to load MDAC 2.8 sp1 on my Vista Business PC as it's a
requirement for VB 6.0 sp5. I get the "Allow" message but when I click
allow the dialog just goes away and nothing happens... no MDAC is installed.
I tried 2.8 and 2.7 with the same result. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

I changed compatibility mode to XP sp2 and clicked the "Run as
Administrator" with no change in the outcome. So I thought those settings
wouldn't carry over after the contents of mdac_type.exe are unpacked so I
ran it with the /t and /c switches to put the extracted files in their own
directory and set the settings for dasetup.exe (which is what the Allow is
actually asking for) with XP sp2 and Run as Administrator but unfortunately
this didn't do anything different.

Got any other tricks to try? ;-)

I will give that a try. VB 6.0 does run in Vista, it's just the SP5 that
won't install without MDAC 2.6+.

Vista includes newer MDAC components so you won't be allowed to install
older ones. You may have to put VB6 into a virtual PC to get it to run.

Ever get a solution for this? I'm on the phone with MS right now trying to
get an answer. I'll let you know if I get one.
