Friend reports his system is slow moving from one
application to another. Outlook Express to Internet
Explorer to Mavis Typing to Microsoft Word to any number
of other applications.

He has a DELL Dimension (relatively new) withh Intel P4
1.60GHz and 128 MB RAM.

Says the system used to be chop-chop, fast-fast BEFORE a
virus was removed (AGOBOT was at least one virus found.
Oh. yes, the BLASTER virus was removed, too. Since that
process of detecting and removing the viruses, the system
has been slow.)

What can I check on his system to get a faster running
system? ....

thanks so much for your help!

A few things to try.

http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/slowcom.htm

Very often however on a system that has been "virused" and repaired I find
it's never really quite right again until it's been reformatted and started
again from scratch. If he has all the discs that came with the Dell it's not
too difficult. The Dell support site will have instructions for your
particular model. Activation is not an issue with Dell computers.

He would of course want to backup any data files he needs to keep.

Consider also some more RAM. 128 is borderline low for Windows XP and memory
is fairly inexpensive. You *do not* need to purchase the RAM from Dell.
