i have several partitions, one of which is for temp files called T:\ and is
500mb in size.

i am getting a problem with system restore suspending itself on all drives
and reporting that there is not enough disk space on one of the drives,
despite the fact that i only have about 120mb on a 500mb drive.

all the other partitions have several gb of free space.

why would system restore do this when there is ample room on the partition?

it is very disturbing to find that system restore has not been working for
days without my knowledge.

thanks.

Well, I have no idea why anyone would want a 500MB partition on a Windows XP
system, however, you have to consider that with 120GB on a 500MB partition,
you are using up 25% as it is.. And if you have left the System Restore at
default, it wants to try and use up to 12% of said drive for its
information. And if you have any "swap drive" information trying to be used
there, you are going to fluctuate on how much is in use at any given time.

System restore often fails - - as horrifying as that soiunds. I have a
ritual where if my computer is running fine, I have made no major changes in
some time, etc.. I turn off the restore, reboot, turn it back on ad create a
manual restoration point. This seems to keep things clean and tidy.

Also, System Restore is practically worthless when it comes to restoring
what people expect it to restore most of the time - their files. It only
affects system files - so if you have a drive devoted to only your created
files - I see no point in having system restore turned on for that drive.

the partition is for files that normally go to cookies folder and temp
folders on c: hence there is no need for it to be bigger than 500mb.

i have tried your suggestion and moved the slider in system restore to use
only 10% of the drive.

thanks.

Those are not system files. Turn off restore on that drive. It is
unnecessary and a waste of time, just to reiterate and support what
Shenan posted.
