Using two routers in home network

R

Ron_Conn

Have a Linksys BEFW11S4 serving as both a wireless access point and
4-port router connected to a cable modem; there are two wired desktops
(Win 98SE and a wireless laptop (WinXP) all connected, all sharing
resources, and all working great.

I'd like to expand the number of connections by adding an old SMC
Barricade 10/100 4-port router to the network. When I connect the WAN
port on SMC router to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys, I get
internet connectivity, but computers connected to the SMC cannot share
resources with those on the Linksys. Even when I search network for
specific computer names, they aren't found.

Am I overlooking something in the router config, or is it a Windows
setup issue?

Thanks in advance for any assistance, or direction to any online
information!

Use the Barricade as a switch only, not as a router:

1. Don't connect anything to the Barricade's WAN port.

2. Connect a LAN port on the Barricade to a LAN port on the Linksys.
If either device has an uplink port, connect it to a regular port on
the other device. If neither of them has an uplink port, connect two
regular ports using a crossover Ethernet cable.

3. Disable the Barricade's built-in DHCP server.
