Using Start/Run/MSINFO32 ~ Nothing pops up

D

drybones

Running Win XP SP2 Media.

Having problems with Gothic II starting. Gothic II Forum asked me for my
MSINFO32 information.
But can not find this. Looked in C\Windows\system32 for this 'msinfo32' and
could not find it.

What would be my next step in procuring this information for the people who
are attempting to assist
me with getting the startup of Gothic II?

Your help is most appreciated.

msinfo32 is not in the systems folder....
try doing a search and include system and hidden files/folders..
did you try simply typing it in the "run" window?

You clicked Start > Run, type in: msinfo32 and pressed Enter, and System
Information didn't never opened?
Is the shortcut present in Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and
will it open System Information?
Look for it in:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe"

If it isn't there it's probable that it was deleted/changed by a virus.

Hi Brian A.
There is a "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32"
No "msinfo32.exe"
Only have an 'Icon'.
But it is empty as I have tried to 'open' it and 'Explore' it to 'no avail.

only if you have a cd with sp1 and the pc has sp2.

lot of people don't know that they would need to unistall sp2 from
add/remove programs first before using their sp1 cd / o.s.

afterwards, take care of the selections.
Select new install, point to the o.s. detected on the hd, and say yes
to repairing it......

then proceed with the updates/downloads....

DatabaseBen

if the msinfo32 file is the only problem, then mybe consider leaving
well enough alone and forget the repair...

but if you suspect something more going on and the msinfo32 problem
is a clue or a sign, then it might be time to
do a little maintenance repair....

DatabaseBen

yeh, i know about slipstreaming too.
thanks for the suggestion...

i didn't want to suggest this to the OP because
it could only compound the headache he is already having...
and since his system might be in a state of unpredicatability,
using the system to slipstream and build the integrated cd may
not be a good idea right now

he didn't say exactly what if any there was a problem
already that got his focus to initiating the msconfig32

maybe simply copying and expanding the msinfo32.exe off the cd might help
but don't know which cab has it....

DatabaseBen,
The "problem that started all this was the PC Game Gothic II refuses to play
on this Win XP SP2 MEDIA edition machine.

I had utilized the Gothic II forum and asked for an assist. Came back with a
request for my msinfo.nfo and dxdiag.txt .Then they might see what is
wrong.

And here we are still trying to get the msinfo.nfo.
Oh well~~~~~~~

Well blew that last right out the door.

I did d/l the "olereg.vbs" to my temp file and clicked upon it.
Then grinning hit start/run msinfo32 and ~~~~nothing. <sighed again>

Thanks for your assist attempt.

There is a file in that location? But it doesn't have the .exe
extension? Do you have the option set to show file extensions?

When you try to run the file what happens exactly?

Hi Cliff,
Absolutely nothing>

Think I shall do a format and <sigh> total reinstall.

i think that you should unistall that game, instead.
then see what is your system state....If your restore
is functional, you might be able to use a convenient restore
point prior to installing the game...

It is likely that the people who made the game are fully aware
of the problem you have. but don't know why there was
no info for you at their website, eg faq, updates, patches, etc...

If unistalling the game is successful in regaining access to msinfo, then
you should consider reinstalling the game under a different profile, eg,
hardware for game,
user account for gamer...

doesnt msinfo work in safe mode?
