XP Not detecting or using memory

Hi I am running windows XP sp2 a while ago i upgraded my memory and added a
further gig so i now have 3gig installed but windows will not detect this
extra memory.

Upon startup BIOS detects it and once in windows Msinfo32.exe detects it as
being there. But XP is not detecting nor using it. I have tried removing and
adding the memory swapping them round etc and BIOS detects each change and so
does Msinfo32.exe but my general information wont update to include 3 gig and
when going into task manager it only shows 2 gigs total

I really need help

If you click Start-Run-Winver what does it say for physical memory?

Are all your DIMMs the same size and specification (e.g., PC3200, etc.)?

What does Control Panel - System say in the "computer" section of the
Window?

If that says only 2 gb then use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to the
BOOT.INI tab.
In the BOOT.INI tab click on the Advanced options button at the
bottom.
Make sure that the checkbox for the /MAXMEM= line is clear and that
there is no value entered in the data box for that line.

Good luck
