Hello

On my desktop I have several shortcuts to open web pages. Until
recently the pages opened immediately; now I get the "open with" box &
selecting MSIE & ticking the "always use this program to open this type
of file" box makes no difference as the next time I try to use one of
these shorcuts I still get the "open with" box with the "always
use....."option is unticked.

Any ideas please?

Try this.

LNK (Shortcut) File Association Fix (Restores Default Shortcut Behavior)

Windows® XP File Association Fixes

Read the instructions.
Didn't work, I'm afraid. I did as instructed, downloded the file,
expanded it, clicked on it & answerred yes & even rebooted however I
still get the "open with" box. Another thing I haven't mentioned but
will do so now in case it's connected is that when using Outlook
hyperlinks in e-mail messages don't work & so I copy & paste.

Maybe something in the .lnk key is still funky.

Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to this key and select it...
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk |
From the Edit menu, click Delete | Close regedit.

Double click the linkfile_fix.reg again and answer Yes to merge it into your
registry.
