Using Quotes i.e., "

When I type quotes (") I have to press the spacebar for them to appear. Does
anyone know how I can fix this problem so that they appear as a keystroke?

That's a characteristic of some of the keyboards for other languages.
Do you have other IME's enabled? Do you have more than one keyboard
available for typing English? Do you have a Language Bar in your
Status Bar? That's where you could see whether your keyboard is set to
"US Standard."

You can change the availability of keyboards in the Control Panel
"Regional and Language Options."

(This isn't a Word-specific thing.)
