Word insert current date after month is inserted

Using Word 2000 automatic current date insert, after entering first four
letters of the current month the month comes up, but when I press the
spacebar I have to insert the day and year. However, if after pressing the
spacebar and then the backspace the full current date appears. How can I get
the day and year to appear following the automatic appearance ot the month
and after just pressing the spacebar?

You can get either the month (after the first four letters) or the entire
date (after typing the month in full), not both. That's just how it works.
No one seems to like it, but that's the way it is.
