Using PC as phone

I have cable internet on both of my PC's at home. I do not
have a telephone in my room, but I do have a telephone
line. I would like to use my computer as my telephone. I
looked online for programs but they all want you to use an
internet-phone, which I do not want to do. I just want to
use my pc as the phone instead of my telephone. Is there
anyway that I can do this using XP Home Edition? Thanks

Hello

Why not just go out purchase a phone since you already have a phone
line and be done with it, much easier and simply to address

You need a Voice modem to do that. It connects to the phone line and then
you can speak through headphones w/ speakerphone.

I'm sure he has his reasons (probably 'cool' reasons) for wanting to do
it that way.
