I just tried to use my existing WinXP hdd on a new motherboard, It begins to
boot then stalls after %systemroot%\system32\device\agp440. Don't want to
wipe disk, any hints?

ok . . . In both methods I'm to insert my xp cd and select update from the
menu, but as I have a full version I don't get a update option, only an
install. What now? BR

Upon no response I went ahead with the install and now unit boots past this
point but just before reaching the desktop it reboots every time. Ran chdsk
but no change. . .

You should try a repair option instead of a update option. How can you
update if you can't get into the OS?

You just boot with the cd, and choose setup xp, I believe its enter then
'F8" for the license agreement, then you'll get the option to repair
I believe, from there it should repair your os and you should be good to go.
