Using Multiple Network Adapters

A

Andrew

I am using two network adapters in my system (winxp pro)

A: 10/100 subnet: 192.168.1.0
B: 10/100/1000 subnet: 192.168.2.0

EVERY game i try and EVERY networking application i try
they end up choosing the gigabit card instead of the
10/100 card. My lan is connected to the 100 card, and the
gige card is connected directly to my raid/file server,
so of course, the application wont work until i disable
the gigabit card and run again.

The fact that the applications always choose the same
card (in fact the wrong card) suggests that there is some
order, somewhere, but i have yet to find it. I have tried
different subnets, subnet masks, physical pci locations,
and many others.

Does anobody know how to change which interface is the
default one to be used by applications?

What is the subnet mask for each network connection? It should be
255.255.255.0. A mask of 255.0.0.0. or 255.255.0.0 would cause XP to
always use the faster (gigabit) card.

When testing to see which connection is used, access other computers
by IP address, not by computer name. With the subnet mask that I
gave, 1.x should always use adapter A, and 2.x should always use
adapter B.
