I'm struggling to get to share a printer with a couple of
XP pcs. I've got Internet connection sharing workng, have
set up a home network, but cannot get a client PC to
access the main Pc. I've tried adding the client PC using
group policy edit, but always get the message ""failed to
save local policy database", when trying to add the change
to the local policy.

Does that person have XP Home or XP Pro?
If Home then gpedit is not part of XP Home, cannot be used in home and will
not run in Home.
If XP Pro then it is part of and can bu used.
Only XP Pro has gpedit.msc.

Mark,
If I understood right what you need is to creat a user acount for each user
in the main machine. So when you want to share a folder/printer this user(s)
can have access to it.
Hope this helps!!
