Error with gpedit.msc

When attempting to change security settings in gpedit.msc, I am receiving the
following error:

The Group Policy security settings that apply to this machine could not be
determined. The error returned when trying to retreive these settings from
the local security policy database (%windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb)
was: The parameter was incorrect.

All local security settings will be displayed, but no indication will be
given as to whether or not a security setting is defined by Group Policy.
Any local setting modified through the User Interface may subsequently be
overriden by domain-level policies.

Another problem I am having with this machine is the inability to connect to
it via remote desktop. Remote desktop is enabled.

How do I correct these two issues?

Thanks in Advance,

Darin

Hi Darin,
Did your problem get solved. I am getting the same message too and I was
wondering if you ever found a solution.
Thanks

I ended up re-installing the OS. I believe the remote desktop issue was a
side effect of XP SP2. Something I have noticed with SP2 is in order to
connect via remote desktop, we had to use either the IP address or the FQDN
if the machine is on a domain. I did not put a lot of time into this issue.
