Using equation editor..

This is probably a dumb question, but we were using Equation Editor yesterday
and entering in some formula. My question is , can the equation editor
actually calulate the sums? or is it purely for entering in the symbols of
the formula?

That saves me time at home trying to make it do something it just cant do lol
