using .csv to import but no joy

Hi all,
I am having trouble trying to import an excel (.xls) into my
addresses book in both windows xp outlook express and windows vista
mail.
As there seems to be no option to import the excel directly into the
address book I tried to save the excel as a .csv as there seems to be
this option. It is not working properly. I am thinking maybe I have
to
format the columns or something.
I attach the excel file here on this link http://tinyurl.com/5qpooz
where I have left only a couple of changed contacts to see if anyone
can please help to find out what is going on and what I need to do to
change it so I can save it as a .csv or whatever it needs. The actual
file has about 700(!) contacts on it. It was exported from an outlook
in another computer. I can't seem to sort it out and would be very
greatful if someone could please give me a hand, Thank-you in
advance!!

Ask in microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
and windows vista mail.

Ask in microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

This group is for Office Outlook.

Okay, let me pick up his question: I'm trying to import data from a Palm
(type= ".aba") to Outlook 07. Unfortunately OL only takes about 8 or 10
types of imports, and .aba ain't one of 'em. When we try to export the Palm
contact data as .csv or .tab etc, the Palm pgm only exports a single
record--which I know isn't a Microsoft problem, but it's why I'm trying to
find what *file formats* Outlook accepts other than .csv & .tab. Anyone
know? Meanwhile I'll try working the other side and see if we can get Palm
to cooperate (which is why we're ditching it for Outlook.) Thx. --sf

the easiest way to see what formats it accepts is to step through the import
menu. I suspect the only formats the two share are csv and possibly vcard.

I'm suffering with this as well...
One interesting thing is that outlook will accept VCard imports, but
only one card per file....
The program I am migrating from is quite happy to export all of my
contacts to a single VCard file
which I understand is permitted, but OL only reads the first "record"/
contact and then quits.

CSV "should" work, as suggest here, I recommend stepping thru the
import wizard to see what it
is "thinking" when it sees your CSV file.

There is also a Microsoft KB article on this topic:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810930
It is titled none other than: "How to import the Address Book from
Palm Desktop to Outlook"

Also, this company makes some "conversion" type software you might
find helpful: http://www.outlook4team.com/default.asp

Current versions of Outlook don't support multi-files. There are addins that
may work - see the last 2 addins on
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/contacts.asp - there may be others.
