Using CD Burner to Backup Programs

Hell
I am trying to start to backup my programs and software programs to save to my CD Burner
After I copy the programs (mostly the ones that I have downloaded from the internet), when I check to see if the programs are saved, all I end up with is the shortcuts to the programs..and the list of programs combined with the individual program are all shortcuts too
This occurs when using either the Easy CD Creator, or using the "Copy to CDâ€
I would appreciate any assistance anyone can provide
Thank
Michelle

When you download an application, it's packaged in an "installer". It is
just this installer you want to backup to CD-R.
Click on this link to Winzip.

Save it to your desktop. Now you should have a yellow/red Winzip installer
on the desktop. It's this which you need to backup. You can r-click on the
desktop and create a new folder. Call it "Downloads" if you like. Download
or drag installers into this folder. When it gets to be a few hundred MB in
size, burn the entire folder to a CD-R.
