CD Burner problems

I have 2 CD drives. I am trying to copy a disk. The burner program copies the
source disk OK, but then when it tries to burn to the target I get a message
that says "burn failed". I have tried using 2 burner softwares and get the
same message. I get this message when I try to copy audio and data files. All
help appreciated.

How old is the drive that you are trying to burn with?

ShadowTek, the CD burner drive is 3 or 4 years old. Both of my CD drives are
burners and no matter how I try to burn it, I get the same error message.

I had a drive about that age that started failing to burn. I replaced it
with a new burner and that solved the problem.

Besides, new burners have better technology that those older, ealier one.

Of course, another important consideration is your power supply. How many
amps does your 12volt rail(s) put out?

BTW, burning at the slowest speed puts the least demand on your power
supply, so you might want to try that.

Causes that I know can cause such an error:
The CD media may not tolerate the burning speed if to high
Wrong or low quality CD media
Dirty laser lens
Not enough memory
multitasking
Cheap burner application

Possible solutions:
1.- Simulate your burning sesions to anticipate problems, and read the
burning log in case of trouble, to know the cause.
2.- Avoid copying from CD to CD, instead make an image of the original CD
and next burn the image to the copy CD
3.- Do one task at a time, don't run other applications while the CD is
burning.
4.- Lower the burning speed.
5.- Try with another burning application
6.- Run a laser lens cleaner or disasemble the burner and clean the laser
lens

Have you tried changing the brand of disc you use or is it one that has
always worked before ?

Ross,

Click My Computer and then right click on one of the CD burners listed.
Click properties and then click on the Recording tab. Make sure that one of
them is enabled for recording.
