Using Both Speakers and a Headset

I recently purchased a Boom mic/headset for web chat. I have a SB Live
sound card.
How do I set up my audio so that I can hear on speakers or headset and
always use the boom mic?
Can I set up to use either or always both?

Thanks for any help

there are some small adaptors that change the sound output of the sound card
from one to 2 outputs.
these are cheap. So then you plug in both the speakers AND the headphones to
the output.. and when you want to use the headphones you turn down the
speaker volume.

If the microphone and headset each have separate connectors to the computer,
yes. What you will need is a "splitter"--1 plug into computer, jacks at
ends of the two wires coming from the plug. Note that you will probably
have to have the same kind of plugs on the speaker wire and the headset wire
as these splitters seldom come with different jacks on them; or also buy
adapters. Also, the speaker and headset impedance should be the same to
avoid degradation of the sound in either or both (You will experience some
anyway.).

Best shot to get what's needed is good ol' Radio Shack. Take items with
plugs to be sure the splitter is compatible.

Hope this helps.
