hello. i have a cable modem which uses a pop server for my outlook express.
everythimg is fine there. however, i work for a university and they supply me
with free software and access to the web. along with that comes messenger
express. since i started out like everybody else using dial-up, i was using
messenger express to send and receive e-mail. now that i activated outlook
xpress[pop server], i cannot SEND e-mail thru mess xpress[http serve]. i can
still receive, though. any advice would be greatly appreciated since the cable
company and the university were not helpful. thanx

You probably cannot send mail because that would mean relaying the smtp
traffic. Most ISP's and mail server admins disable smtp relaying
because that is one of the ways spammers operate. I don't know what
Messenger Express is, but the email client you use is irrelevant to the
problem. What you need to do is set your smtp server to be that of the
cable company.
