ZA's ignorance is inexcusable, their arrogance is shameful! UNINSTALL this
thing and opt for the WinXP or Vista in-build f/w apps.

....Mr. Kaminsky immediately reported the issue to major authorities,
including the United States Computer Emergency Response Team (part of the
Department of Homeland Security), and began working on a coordinated fix.
Engineers from *major technology vendors* around the world converged on the
Microsoft campus in March to coordinate their response. All of the vendors
began repairing their products and agreed that a synchronized release, on a
single day, would minimize the risk that malicious individuals could figure
out the vulnerability before all vendors were able to offer secure versions
of their products...

personally i do not like third party firewalls unless you really know how to
use your computer
i had a client who claimed he could not connect to the internet via firefox
one day
after hitting my head through the wall (not really) i figured out what he
did.
finally i figured out that the firewall was blocking firefox
I asked him if he did anything to cause this
he told me that a za popped up with a message asking for permission to
allow firefox to go out to the internet when he opened firefox and he told
it "no"

I asked him why he did this and he said if it was asking then it must have
been a bad thing and he just said no.
Well duh- if you do not let it out- it cannot go anywhere

Most people have no clue what to let out and can really mess up things if
they have no clue.
that is why it is just better to use windows xp firewall or vista's unless
you are an advanced computer user.

I can remember Windows Defender doing this with Firefox when it was first
released. On install it would be fine, but when it autoupdated, the new
version wasn't recognized, and Windows Defender would raise a dialog. I
don't recall what it said, but a number of users in an office I admin did
the knee-jerk thing of saying DENY, and I'm glad they did. They would then,
of course, come and complain to me that Firefox had stopped working, and I'd
need to reset things, but that seemed a small price to pay for having
trained my users well enough that they did the right thing when faced with
an unexpected prompt about a security-related issue.

Hear, hear!

But if you *really* know your machine you'll soon realize that 'outbound
control' has nothing to do with operating securely anyway and the hype
created by the makers of these software holds no water whatsoever :)

Older ZoneAlarm like the classic 4.5.594
is not affected. Small, good, working.
