Hi,

I an persuing my MCSE. I have built a windows 2000
advanced sever with exchange 2000 as a "lab computer". I
have added about 30 fictitous users and mailboxes. I have
2 client computeres joined to the domain too. It is a small
simulated network for my studies.

The system has been performing well until recently. Now
when I open a user or public folder, it takes about 30
seconds to open (used to take 3-4sec). All other apps open
fast as usuall. The machine is 1 GHtz, pretty fast, other
than the active directory and exchange. I do not recall
adding anything that would hinder performance.

Does anyone know any tips to troubleshoot/tune up the AD
to run faster.

Thanks in advance for all your help!! Billy

Billy,

I would look at DNS to make sure that everything is there and where it is
supposed to be. That would be my first thought.

However, to be more thorough, I might suggest that you install the Support
Tools on your DC and run both dcdiag /v and netdiag /fix followed by netdiag
/v. You could pipe the results of both dcdaig /v and netdiag /v to a .txt
file ( simply enter dcdiag /v >c:\dcdiagoutput.txt or something similar ) so
that you can then search through it in Notepad, looking for 'fail', 'warn'
and 'error'.

HTH,

Cary
