Users Deleted Items disapearing

Brian

We use Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003 v6.5 and have a user that opens up
their Outlook 2003 email and notice that the deleted items folder will
display a number of deleted items but then they will dissappear and will not
show any deleted items. We tried another PC and the same behavior. All the
items are there, then dissapear from view. Any insight on this would be
greatly appreciated.

The View for Deleted items is set to messages. It briefly appears and then is
gone until they log in again. Possible mailbox corruption? No one else is
reporting these errors. I am looking into recent Server and workstation
updates, too.

Have you checked which View you are looking at of the Deleted Items folder?

Yes it sounds dodgy. Have you tried detect and repair?

Detect and repair does not help. I recently installed Outlook update 943649
but no one else seems to have the same issue. I uninstalled the update but
that did not make a difference either. Does this sound more like an Exchange
issue with the user's mailbox?

OK. I had one user report they could not see their older deleted items. They
had quite a few, and when they clicked on the deleted items, it would briefly
show the deleted items and then dissapear.
1) I had the user log into several PC's to see if it was isolated to the PC,
since no other users have reported this issue. That did not help- the same
issue occurred.
2) I checked event viewer for any errors related to Outlook or their user
profile. I did not see Outlook errors but I saw a possible profile related
event and made sure the user had full permissions to their roamaing user
profile. That did not help.
3) I checked Exchange event viewer and did not see anything outstanding
related to the user issue.
4) I uninstalled Outlook update
943649 on one of the PC's the user logs into- that did not help- that to me
more than anything so far seems to be the culprit, but I also had her log
into another PC that did not have the
5) I made sure the View for Deleted items was set to "messages" as you
suggested- that was already set to that view.
6) I tried detect and repair and that did not help.
7) I had the user log into Outlook Web Access and they still cannot see the
deleted itmes that were previously in there.
8) I do not see any rules for the deleted items folder.

If their mailbox is corrupt I would not know how to address that in
Exchange. Any more suggestions would be appreciated.
