Outlook 2003 - sort deleted items by deleted date/time?

R

Hello - In Outlook 2003 is there any way to sort items in the Deleted folder
by the date/time they were deleted? If I go to Tools > Recover Deleted
Items, there is a "Deleted On" field, but I don't see any way to add that
field to the Deleted Items folder view. (I am working with an Exchange
server.) Thank you.

The standard way to add fields to a view is through the Field Chooser. Have
a look for the required field on it. You get to the field chooser by
turning on the advanced toolbar. Leave it on - the best stuff's hidden on
that toolbar.

Thank you Judy. I did find a field that works to show the date an item was
deleted in the Deleted Items folder - the "Modified" field.

I do have the modified date added to my deleted items folder, and although it
is frequently different from the received date it is NOT always the deleted
date.
I deleted several items today that I had forwarded yesterday (they had been
received in the past week). The modified date showing in the deleted items
folder is yesterday's date- the day I forwarded them -- not today's date- the
day I deleted them.

This request- to sort by date deleted - comes up frequently. Does anyone
have a valid answer for it?

The valid answer is that the modified date is as close as you can come.
Outlook doesn't maintain a "deleted" date.

That is really NOT an acceptable answer. I feel like I've been told 'that's
the way it is- live with it'. Other email clients have this option. AND, it
is a common request by more people than me- hence this post.

This option is invaluable when you work in a position where you get 50-100
(or more) valid, not spam, emails a day and accidentally delete one that
arrived last week. This option makes it much easier than searching the
deleted items folder.

I love my Outlook at home, but at work, where the volume of email is
excessive (despite my use of filters, organization by colors and fonts!, use
of the reminder field, and customized searches) this option, or lack of
option, has frustrated me.

There's a word for people who cannot accept reality.

I'll spell it out: that's the way it is. Live with it. Outlook doesn't
keep track of any deleted date. Of course, you're always welcome to call or
write to Microsoft (which you are NOT doing when you post in these
newsgroups) and tell them you'd like them to implement a "Deleted" date.
Who knows if or when they'd implement it, however.

Alternatively you could ask your IT dept to invest in Lotus Notes, which has had this feature for years and I use it often, along with the many other great features of Notes that are not in Outlook.
