Users archived inbox eats up all his mail

Odd things are brewing for one user...

He had SOME emails in his regular inbox, and some in his archived
inbox.

oddly enough, SOME new mail arrived in his regular inbox and some
arrived in his archived inbox.

I disabled archiving altogether on his Outlook.

I think moved all his archived inbox items to his regular inbox.

They all arrived nicely...

then, one by one, they started to disappear... it was as though the
archiving folder was pac-man-ing up all his inbox emails...

Like I said, I disabled archiving.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe the user has the mail profile configured to deliver to the archive .pst
file, rather than the mailbox.
