userprofile changed

On Win 2000 SP4, not in a domain, about 8-10 users,
two users have had their userprofile changed from
C:\Documents and Settings\username to
C:\Documents and Settings\username.computername.
This supposedly "just happened" and they have access
to both folders (but no other userprofile folders).

I suppose I could just copy My Documents, Favorites, etc.,
from C:\Documents and Settings\username to
C:\Documents and Settings\username.computername, but
I'd kind of like to know what happened and why.

Thanks,
Len

The profile may be corrupt. If the profile is corrupt, you can rename the
profile(while logged on as local admin), then when the user logs on again a
new profile will be created from the image in \default user. You can then
copy over the items you need from the renamed profile. Copy the folder
contents not the folders themselves. When your sure you have all you need,
you can delete the renamed profile(s). Use the import function of your
e-mail software. Don't overwrite ntuser.dat
