%userprofile% variable points to wrong directory

Somehow the system variable %userprofile% now points to C:\Documents and
Setting\Temp rather than the folder that was created for the user:

C:\Documents and Setting\Greg

Is there a way to get the system variable %userprofile% to point to the
correct directory other than defining it as a user variable?

I am currently using Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2

In Start>Control Panel>System>System Properties>Advanced> Environmental
Variables>System variables you can edit the line with that information.

Hello Greg,

The ProfileImagePath registry value may be mapped to a incorrect folder in your hard drive. Download SIDList.vbs from the link below in my site:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/sidlist.vbs

Double-click the file to run it. It lists all the SIDs, their Account names and the home path for each account. Copy the output and paste the information in your reply.

Note: Do not change the ProfileImagePath value in the registry right away. There are some precautions to be followed.

Greg,

First, create a System Restore point *and* perform a complete registry backup. See here for more info:

Take a complete registry backup using ERUNT:
http://www.winxptutor.com/regback.htm

Then, see section "Changing the ProfileImagePath value in the registry" in this article:

How to rename or move a User Profile folder?:
