Username:password problems

K

Kevin

This started happening about 1 - 2 months ago.

I used to be able to type in the address bar
http://username:[email protected]. Now, when I try
it, I get an Invalid Syntax error. I had a bookmark that
used to work fine in this format, but after performing
some updates a month or so ago, it stopped working
(unsure if the updates caused it, or if it was some
unrealated program).
After re-installing windows, the bookmark worked
immediately, but after applying all the updates, and
installing my standard programs, it ceased to work
again. I can remove the username:password@ part of the
address, and the password screen will come up, wherin I
can type manually the username and password (or paste it
from what I had typed already) and it will work.

Any way to fix this?

Using: Windows XP Pro, IE6.

That URL syntax is no longer supported in IE6 after installing the
MS04-004 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (832894).
This web page has details:

A security update is available that modifies the default behavior of
Internet Explorer for handling user information in HTTP and in HTTPS
