I'm using XP and IE6SP1. Until recently, I've been
successfully logining-on to several sites using Basic
Authentication by embedding the username & password into
the URL.
ie: http://username:[email protected]

This no longer works (possibily after upgrading from IE6
to IE6SP1, but no sure about that).

The IE title bar shows "Invalid syntax error - Microsoft
Internet Explorer" and no internet access is made. So it
seems that IE has made the decision that the URL is
invalid.

What has changed? Should this method still work? The
exact same URL works in Mozilla V1.6. I've reinstalled
WinXP & IE6SP1, but result is the same.

Cheers,
Rod

Windows Update says I'm uptodate.
Version 6.0.28800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
SP1, Q832894, Q330994

So what Security Update do you mean ?
