Hi,
That capability was removed by a security update to Internet Explorer.
See:
834489 - A security update is available that modifies the default behavior
of Internet Explorer for handling user information in HTTP and in HTTPS
URLs:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834489
If you did not install that particular update, it's possible that later
cumulative updates also block that URL syntax.

Hope this helps,
Don

That article also describes a way to undo the effect of the change. See
the section headed "How to disable ..." near the bottom of the page.

Now I have an issue apparently involving this particular problem. I get the
Invalid Syntax Error on every website I try to open in IE when I'm logged
into WinXP, but it is ok when I'm logged into XP as my wife(I'm using IE
right now logged in as her). This just started today and has never happened
before. I don't think I've installed anything lately and I've tried
uninstalling/reinstalling IE to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like an entirely different problem to me. What is the exact error
message?
