I created user accounts but the user name and passwords (with the exception
of admin) don't work.

I recommend checking out these sites:

The 10 Steps Summarized (Lynn Trapp)
http://www.ltcomputerdesigns.com/The10Steps.htm

Access 97/2000 Security Step by Step (Joan Wild)
http://www.jmwild.com/security97.htm

Access 2002/2003 Security Step by Step (Joan Wild)
http://www.jmwild.com/security02.htm

And, of course, you should download a copy of the Access Security FAQ:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=148555

Please note that there is a microsoft.public.access.security newsgroup. The
people who hang out in that group are likely in a better position to help you
out.

Good Luck,
Tom

It should be noted that this is a Microsoft Access -DATABASE- newsgroup.
Your question could be a Windows question not related to Access the
Database. If it is not an Access question, I suggest you repost your
question in a more appropriate newsgroup. It is easy to make a mistake
about what newsgroup you need.

It seems that the user name password prompt shows up even on databases that
i havent secured yet. how do i disable this from happening.

Are you sure it is Access asking for the password? Is it Access
security asking or is it just the password protection in Access?

Tope12,

This is a classic sign of either being permanently joined to your new
workgroup information file (*.mdw), or you may have unwittingly made changes
to your system.mdw file. You need to read up on implementing security in
Access before attempting to do so.

Which version of Access are you using? For example, in Access 2002, you can
click on Tools > Security > Workgroup Administrator to reveal which workgroup
information file that you are permanently joined to. This should read
system.mdw. If it does, then you likely made a change to the system file. All
Access applications have security enabled; it's just that the default is for
the the Admin user without a password. Make a note of the path that is shown.
Then quit Access. Find a copy of system.mdw from another PC that has the same
version of Access and replace your copy.

I'm pretty sure that Access 2002 and higher are "self-healing" in that you
can rename system.mdw to something else, like system.mdw.old. (You need to
have Access closed when you attempt to rename this file). Then, if Access is
joined to this file and it cannot find it during startup, it will create a
new one automatically.

Why do you bother hanging out here. Get a life or maybe learn how to
use Access.

no seriously dude

jet security is a joke

use SQL Server.. unless you want phishers and spyware to come and copy
your data and post it on the internet.

do you have any idea how much phishing goes on?

how many poeple have their information compromised-- because of jet
security?

it is a complete and utter joke.. anyone using mdb for anything in the
real world should be kicked to the street

oh TC

you're funny

so tell me.. Redmond PAYS YOU in order to slam INNOVATIVE people?

Redmond PAYS YOU in order to enforce GROUPTHINK?

is that right?

Shove your MDB up your nose jerk
ADP is a much better solution; and someday you will see the light.

I neither slam people, nor enforce groupthink.

But I do respond aggressively to obnoxious know-nothings who spout
misinformation and generally lower the tone of the newsgroups.

Please go away. We've all had enough of you.

Why do trolls like you bother? Do you think anyone believes you or
respects your actions? You are far too transparent to have any credibility.

im too transparent?

you're TOO OBSOLETE

go and play with your junior-sized databases kids
