User Network Access

We have a user on a Windows XP Home accessing data on a
Windows 2000 server.

The username on both the server and the laptop are the
same and the passwords are the same, yet whenever he tries
to access the network resources, it keeps asking to have
them re-entered everytime.

I have deleted the drive mappings and recreated, but when
we turn the machine off and then try again, the same
happens.

Any ideas? Or would an upgrade to Win XP Pro fix this?

Depends really on what really is happening. If this is on a dialup
connection then when the user logs in the remappings will cause the machine
to try and authenticate the user to the resource - hence the login prompt.

However if the client and server are on the same network (ie LAN) then this
should work fine. Have you updated all servicepacks for Win2k/XP?

Regards
Paul.

XP Home is not able to join a domain. You'll need to upgrade it to XP Pro.

This is on the LAN. We have just run all the updates from
MS on all products.

What we have done is renamed the user on the server to
ensure it is the same as the laptop user - and deleted and
remapped all drives - but again, this asks for the user to
login each time he accesses the drives after starting the
laptop.

We just use workgroups at the moment. So this should work
with XP Home shouldn't it?

I was aware Home does not work with Domains, so will need
to upgrade shortly as we move into a new network and
office - maybe i just bring this upgrade forward.

It's because the Home can't be authenticated by the server. That it's why it
is asking for the credentials every time.
