I am running Windows 2000 Server. Under Active Directory for Users and
Computers, the names do not display properly. Sometimes, the names
displayed as last name_firstname (Smith_Joe). Sometimes, the names
displayed as firstname last name (Joe Smith). I would like to have all the
names displayed as lastname_firstname (Smith_Joe). How do I correct the
names that displayed as firstname lastname? Thanks.

I don't know how You are creating users account in Your domain but You
have to take care about unified naming in it - the name of object You
can see (by default) in ADU&C is CN of this object - so If You will have
unified CN You will get result as You want

Thanks for your quick response.

I don't quite understand your answer. How do I get "so if you will have
unified CN you will get results as you want"? I just want the names to
display as lastname_firstname for consistencies. 95% of the names displayed
as lastname_firstname. Is there a way to correct those names already
displayed as firstname lastname? Thanks.

to understand me properly do a little experiment - run adsiedit.msc and
navigate to two different users objects - one which name is displaued as
lastname_firstname and second which name is displayed as firstanem and
lastname. You should see that CN of this objects are in different
format. To correct this You can rename this objects using adsiedit or
other interface

Diane,

Have you taken a look at ADModify or at ldifde? These should help you.
Personally, I would use ADModify.

Diane,

A simply google search will show you where you get ADModify. Here is the
link:

ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/PSS/Tools/Exchange%20Support%20Tools/ADModify/

ldifde is built into Windows 2000 Server. There are several MSKB Articles
to help you.
