User defined fields?

L

Linn Kubler

Hi,

When designing a custom form, if I define my own fields where do they get
stored? When I publish the form to the Organizational Forms Library do my
custom fields get published too?

Thanks in advance,
Linn

Whether the field definitions are stored in a folder or in the form or in both depends on how you create the field. See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/fields.htm

Ok, I give up. So I created new fields in the folder using the customize
current view | fields method as described in your article. Now I'm
designing my form and I can't seem to figure out how to access those new
fields. In the field chooser, User-defined fields in folder is empty.
What's the trick?

Thanks,
Linn

What kind of form are you creating -- message, contact, etc.? What folder did you create the fields in?

I created a calendar in the public folder and created a customized view. I
added my fields when creating the view. I'm modifying an appointment form
and I plan to add a couple combo boxes with predefined items to select that
are linked to the fields I added to my view. Does that make sense?

Thanks,
Linn

Try this: Create a new item in the public folder (not your own calendar). Save it. Then choose Tools | Forms | Design This Form. You should now see in the Field Chooser the fields defined in that folder, because you're working with an item that has that folder as its parent.

Ah yes, took me a minute to understand what you were suggesting here but
that worked.

Thanks,
