Recently a friend of mine is unable to sign in using her administrative account. She has forgotten the password or somethign like that and she is wondering if there is anyway to create an account with admin privlages without actualy having admin access

OK let's see if I understood, Your friend has her own
computer and is trying to login using the admin account?
Or does her signon have admin privileges? Is this home or
pro version of XP? If it is the home version, reboot the
pc and go into safe mode, type in administrator as the
signon with no password this should get her in as the
admin, go into the user accounts and make the necessary
changes she wants. "ONLY AN ADMIN CAN CREATE ACCOUNTS".
If it is pro this is a little more difficult but not
impossible, go to the following site and download there
offline registry editer, it is a self booting utility, you
can download either the CD version or diskette ver.

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

It is at the bottom of this page, when you create the cd
or disks boot the pc, and follow the instructions, if you
use the cd do not allow to scan for SCSI devices, the rest
of the questions should be default, eventually it is going
to give you an option to change the admin password.

BE CAREFULL USING THIS UTILITY.

GOOD LUCK

No there isn't. Was she using the built-in Administrator account, or one she
created? If the built-in one, then this is the very reason NOT to use it on
a daily basis!

This is where the reserve, emergency account called Administrator comes
in. Boot, hitting F8 as BIOS info goes to black; take Safe Mode, There
will then be an icon for Administrator on the Welcome screen. (If not,
hit CTL-ALT-DEL twice and enter the explicit name
Administrator
and leave the password blank)

In that, Start - Run the line
control userpasswords2
where you can select any account name and Reset Password or take
Properties (for use if an account has slipped to the wrong Privilege
group)
