Use of Simplified Chinese in Emails

P

please

Hi,

I intend to use Simplified Chinese in emails but was unable to do so.

The operating system of my computer is Windows 95 OSR2 Chinese
(Traditional) Version, i.e. Traditional Chinese can be displayed and
input. My email client is Pegasus. My browser is Internet Explorer
5.0.

Here is a list of actions which I have taken in order to dispaly and
input Simplified Chinese for my emails (but was unable to achieve my
purposes):

1. I downloaded Microsoft Global IME 5.02 and successfully installed
it and was able to input Simplified Chinese in Interent Explorer. As
the help indicated that Simplified Chinese can also be used in Outlook
Express, I downloaded Outlook Express 5.5 Setup ie5setupoe.exe. When I
tried to run ie5setupoe.exe, I was unable to download Outlook Express
5.5 (and thus also Internet Explorer 5.5) as the Setup gave an error
message before the download began.

2. I downloaded Foxmail Chinese Simplified Version 5.0.800.0
fm50ch.exe and tried to install it. But Installation was unsuccessful.
(Probably because it detected that there is no Simplifed Chinese
support for my computer.)

3. I tried to search the Microsoft websites for Internet Explorer 5.5
and was unable to locate it. (Apparently it always ended up with
Interent Explorer 6.)

I seek your help, with the use of appropriate freeware, that may
enable me to display and/or input Simplified Chinese in emails.

Many thanks in advance.

Don't know about the rest, but I *think* updating IE to 6
might help a bit if not a lot (in some cases, if you could
update your browser, OE will be updated too). And win95, as
far as I know, does not help on this either.

Stony,

I've had excellent experience with both composing and displaying
non-Roman character using Mozilla Mail. Mostly I've used Greek and
Cyrillic fonts. I just installed a Chinese IME and sent myself a message
as a test. I don't speak Chinese, but the glyphs I entered were the same
as what I received.
