Simplified Chinese Language Input and Language Bar Problems

I use XP Home edition SP2 as well as IE7 with Outlook Express and Word 2000.
In the past I have been able input simplified chinese in pinyin and also read
chinese characters in my friends emails. In the last several weeks first I
noticed that chinese characters in emails were gibberish and that some
characters on websites were shown as boxes. I tried to set OE 6 to Chinese
simplified and cannot see it?? I set about to try and resolve but no luck.
In the process I have no language bar (all that is left is a grey box and no
EN or CH like before). I have searched all the KB's and community posts and
do not see any solutions to this. I tried downloading MUI for IE7 with no
result. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can get back to where I was
before?

Thanks for any help on this extremely frustrating problem

You could try reinstalling the East Asian languages. Go to Control
Panel/Regional and Language Options/Languages, and then put in the
appropriate checkmark and click Apply/OK. You will need to have your Windows
Installation media available, either on a disk, or somewhere on your hard
drive. Good luck with this.

Thanks for the info.

I just tried that after your suggestion. No luck!! I also quickly looked on
the CD at the I386 folder and it looks like all those font files are on my PC
at a similarly named location.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

I feel pretty stupid right now - but in case anyone else should have this
same problem - Don't forget to click under "Regional and Language Options"
"Default User Account Settings" "Apply"!!!!!

Thanks for trying to help!
