Use of Firewall with AOL on WinXP

Marisa

I would like to know if it is possible to institute
the 'enable firewall' option on Windows XP when using
America Online via dial-up. I know you can do it if you
are using a LAN, but when using dial-up you don't have
the option of creating a "connection" in "My Network
Connections" because of the way AOL works - so there is
nothing "Network Connections" to modify, therefore making
it impossible to change options to allow a firewall.
Does anyone have any answers for me???

Marisa;
AOL is not compatible with Windows XP firewall.
Contact AOL and/or install a 3rd party firewall.

Greetings --

You'll need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible with
AOL.

AOL has deliberately made their software incompatible with WinXP's
firewall. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately
designed to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to
include enabling/disabling WinXP's firewall, which is
connection-specific.
