Firewall and AOL

Bob

I cannot access the firewall on my dial-up AOL
connection. I follow Microsoft's instruction for
activating the firewall. I right click on the AOL icon
in "network connections" and get the drop down meun. When
I click on the properties in order to get to
the "advanced" property, nothing happens, no additional
menus. If I click on the LAN connection (which I don't
have) icon, I can get to the advanced properties where the
enable firewall is. Is my firewall with AOL working? AOL
says its Microsoft's problem.

Greetings --

You'll need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible with
AOL.

AOL has deliberately made their software incompatible with WinXP's
firewall. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately
designed to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to
include enabling/disabling WinXP's firewall, which is
connection-specific.
