Unable to start XP Firewall

A

Allan

I have tried to enable the XP internet connection
firewall using the help guide but have been
unsuccessful. My ISP is AOL 8.0. I have opened the Control
Panel, then network and internet connections, then
network connections. The help guide then says that I
should chose the connection that I want to be firewall
protected, but in my network connections there is nothing
to open,i.e. No AOL icon.I have found the AOL start up
program in "C:\Program Files\AOL 8.0\aol.exe" but right
clicking then properties does not give me the Enable
Internet Connection Firewall option. Have I missed
something really obvious?

Any help greatfully received

Hello Allen
From Network Connections
Right click the connection and choose Properties, then click the Advanced
tab.
Place a check in the box to engage the firewall.

Happy New Year

America Online installs its own connection settings that override
the ones that come with Windows XP. America Online's
connection settings don't include a way to turn on Windows XP's
built-in firewall.

Visit the following web site for instructions on downloading
a FREE firewall program for your computer.

Greetings --

If you're using AOL, you'll either need to find a 3rd party
firewall that is compatible with AOL, or switch to a real ISP that is
compatible with the real Internet.

AOL is an on-line content provider that ignores international
Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products,
and has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with
both WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing
feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed
to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include
enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS.

Yes... You missed the fact that AOL stinks.

Allen
Sorry for the bum info.
I did not know AOL did what it does. I'm glad I never used it.
Thanks all, for the lesson.
