Unable to turn off XP internet firewall

B

Bob

I right click AOL in Network Connections and
select "Properties" but no menu comes up to allow me to
turn off the XP Internet Firewall, which I need to do to
install Norton Internet Security 2004. A response to a
previous post here said that AOL disables the option. AOL
claims the problem is with XP. Another responder said
that AOL doesn't allow the firewall to be turned on in the
first place, but the status in the connections window
said "firewalled." (The status also says "Disconnected"
even though I am on line) So I'm not sure what my status
is. Maybe I should go ahead and try to install Norton
Internet Security. Maybe not. Maybe uninstall AOL and
try to turn off the firewall, but that probably won't give
me the option either. Any advice appreciated.

Bob;
The Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall is not compatible with AOL
and therefore is not enabled on AOL.
If you have more than one connection, the others may or may not be
covered by IDF.
If you use AOL, you need a 3rd party firewall such a the one in NIS.
