Firewall, can't access per instructions

Hello, new computer from Gateway running WinXP, and i've done all the updates. Gateway can't figure this one out, and i could sure use an answer: when trying to access Firewall (to enable or disable, and yes i'm the owner/admin), i follow the instructions: Control Panel > Network/Inet Connections > Network Connections. then right-click the dial-up service (i have MSN and AOL) > Properties.

Nothing. no screen comes up. nothing. for either service. both services work just fine. firewall is enabled, but i want to Disable it and install ZoneAlarmPro, specially since aol dial-up does Not work with the MS firewall.

does *anyone* have a Clue why this screen will not come up for me?

Thanks!

Kira;

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK |
Scroll down to and double click: Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) /
Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) |
Set Startup type to Disabled | Click the Stop button |

Greetings --

If you're using AOL, you'll either need to find a 3rd party
firewall that is compatible with AOL, or switch to a real ISP that is
compatible with the real Internet. This is because AOL is an on-line
content provider that ignores international Internetworking standards
in favor of its own proprietary products, and has deliberately made
its connection software incompatible with both WinXP's built-in
firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing feature. AOL's
proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed to preclude
your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include
enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS.

For the MSN connection, contact MSN's technical support for
instructions on how to disable the proprietary dialer and configure a
manual connection, on which you can use the built-in firewall.

AOHell does NOT play nice with your computer. It is the reason that you have
no choices for your firewall. Just install ZoneAlarm and you will be
protected. The problem is that ever since you have been using AOHell, you
have had no firewall - and therefore you are most likely infested with
problems.
