What is the easiest way to tell (confirm) someone's computer has USB1 or
USB2... I know, really old question...

Thanks,

Use 'Device Manager' and look for the words:
"Enhanced Host Controller" if its listed then you have USB2

In the Device Manager control panel, look at USB controllers.

If the PC has USB2, at least one of the controllers will be described as
"enhanced".

Don't know if it's the easiest but rt click MyComputer select
Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>USB Controllers. Expand
and look for the word " Enhanced " in the listings.

Okay good, as long as ONE of the controllers is described as ENHANCED, then
ALL are USB2.

Thanks to all above!

But if it isn't you *may* still have USB2. Only about half the controllers
in the wild include the word 'enhanced' in their description.

A surer way is to examine the properties of all the root hubs in device
manager and to check the number of ports on the power tab. If there are
twice as many USB ports than there are physical ports on the machine, then
you have USB2. This method is also not too reliable, because there is
always the possibility of USB ports that are implimented on the motherboard
but not brought out to physical ports.

Thanks M.I.5 3/4,

I'll keep an eye out for that too, the PC in question is certainly one that
is out "in the wild".

Thanks!!
