USB not visible

Agreed that this topic of USB being not recognised has been posted a
number of times, but my problem is slightly different.

I have two USB memory sticks (say USB1 and USB2). The USB1 works
perfectly ok, i.e. is recognised, and shows up in the mycomputer. USB2,
when inserted in the same port, a normal ding sound is heard, and a
popup message appears saying "HI-speed usb device is plugged into a
non-HI-speed....", and further, "you must add a HI-speed usb host
controller to this computer to obtain maximum performance..". I am
using windows XP, and the USB2 is in fact an mp3 player. I remember it
was recognised and worked properly once in the past (can't remember
whether on this computer or the other), but now works on none.
I tried changing the drive name in DiskManagement as suggested in many
post in several newsgroups, but the USB2 doesn't apper, so there is no
question of changing the drive name.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Does Device Manager confirm that both ports are using Enhanced USB drivers?
