Hi,
I have just installed a new PCI USB2 card onto my XP Pro SP2 computer. It
seems to have installed correctly (according to device manager) The only
problem is that when I plug anything into the 2 USB ports it either doesn't
do anything at all or it doesn't recognise the device attached. I gave tried
with a mouse, a usb key a Draytek Vigor 530 USB wirelss adapter (the main
thing that I am trying to get working) And it will not recognise anuthing.
Please help

Thanks Venkatesh,
the second and third links are not really relevant in this case as the usb
ports all seem to have the correct drivers in Device manager. I have deleted
them ta nomber of times and reinstalled them without any problems. It is
only when I try to attach a device that they do not work.
Could it be the bios of the motherboard that is causing the malfunction. I
am not to sure that I want to mess around with that as it is a works system.

Thanks Colin but it isn't anything to do with the printers. That is a
separate issue. Anything that is attached to the old USB ports is no problem
it is only everything that is attached to the new PCI card USB2 ports that I
am having trouble with.

hpbpro.exe is "Hewlett-Packard Port Resolver"

I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't also messing up the USB2.0 ports as
well. It shouldn't be giving you the "egg timer" as frequently as you say.

I have deleted all items to do with the HP but I am still getting the same
problem with the USB ports.

Not sure if these means anything but when I uninstall the PCI USB card and
delete all devices and drivers from device manager that mention USB2 and
then do a rescan windows finds and installs an 'Intel 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0
Enchanced Host Controller -24CD and also a USB 2.0 Root Hub. The only thing
is that I do not have a USB2 port on the computer at all.

The 82801DB is a motherboard I/O controller that supports USB 2.0 but if you
are sure you don't have that on your motherboard it must be being detected
in error. I'm not familiar with how Windows/Bios works out whats fitted.

What make and model motherboard do you have in there?
