USB user Interface Component

Gianluca:

I once ran into a USB detection problem a long long time ago with a certain
USB mouse, and I had to add the "USB User
Interface" component for the file usbui.dll. In this case, XPe prompted me
for this file so it was easy to determine the file/component to add to my
image.

I would add this component.

I have problems using usb modems:
I created a connection on Xpe (accept incoming connection ISDN) ewfram
proteted and when I open network connections control panel, often to see the
connection I must select REFRESH on view menu.To see any change on
the connection (eg. when I enable or disable it) i have to select Refresh
again.
Moreover the connection often do not accept incoming calls.

Like Doug, I had a problem with USB HID devices. There was a registry
solution that Andy Allred posted some time ago.

Does your modem work on XP Pro?
Is the problem that the USB modem that it fails to install?
Are you able to see the modem listed in Control
Panel->System->Hardware-Device Manager?

Thank you for your answer.

My modem works on XP Pro.
On XPe I can install it and I am able to see it listed in Control
Panel->System->Hardware-Device Manager,
but I can't do any connection. Some time it seem to work, but if I restart
XP it doesn't work anymore.

I have gotten away without this component, but the only USB devices that are
expected on my system are storage devices (flash dongles, etc.), keyboard,
and mouse. I also tried a keyboard with a built-in hub that the mouse can be
connected to, and it worked like a charm.

Gianluca,

You have an odd problem. Is this a 56K modem? Who is the manufacturer and
model number?

I am not familiar with ISDN modems. My Diamond 56K USB modem would dial,
connect, but after few moments hang up. The issue was with the hardware and
not XPe. I had to switch to a different manufacture, and everything worked
fine with XPe.
