USB - Unknown Device

Hi...in the device manager i'm getting the status of unknown device...XP is not letting me reinstall the drivers either...it cannot find them. Also, i cannot install manually...its looking for .inf file...i think it should be a .sys file tho'....anyone know what the deal might be?
 
What kind of "Unknown Device" are you trying to connect. Have you tried
disconnecting the device, rebooting the PC and then reconnecting it?

What device is it?
Do you know if the device is compliant to run with Windows (has the
Certified for Windows XP sticker on the box or device?)

What is the status/error code in device manager?
