What do you do when Windows Xp Device Manager won't install driver

I purchased the Nextorm DVBWorld USB2 Device many months ago and it's been
working amazingly up until recently. One day, I accidently disconnected the
usb2 plug and lost the driver. I've been having a heck of a time trying to
get back the right driver, and am having an very frustrating time trying to
fix this problem.

On reconnecting the device Windows XP is trying to install itself an Unknown
Device in Device Manager. If I uninstall that Unknown Device Windows
reinstalls it again later. If I uninstall that Unknown Device and quickly
install the Nextorm software and device driver, the software will install but
the Driver does not. Windows just doesn't seem to want to grab on to the
Nextorm Driver at all and wants to keep putting that dang Unknown Device in
instead... If I try to update the Unknown Device with the Drivers on the CD
manually through Driver Update Functions in Property Windows of the Driver in
Device Manager, Windows gives an error that says that it can't find a better
driver than the one that's already there, which is that Godforsaken Unknown
Device Driver that Windows XP just won't let me update or change for some
Unknown Reason. I've even tried manually copying the driver files
themselves, dvbusb.inf and DVBUSBS.sys, from the cd in to C:/Windows,
C:/Windows/Driver Cache, C:/Windows/system, C:/Windows/System32,
C:/Windows/System32/dllcache, C:/Windows/System32/Drivers, and that's not
fixing the problem either. In the past, when I had similar driver problems
with a Netgear PCI ethernet card copying in to one of those folders
automatically somehow made that device work. It doesn't seem to be fixing
this issue.... It's a real annoyance. I can run and run and rerun that
Nextorm installer. The software will install but the device driver won't.
Please help. I'm starting to go crazy since I've been trying to make this
thing work for the last day and half and have been unseccessful in finding
how to just make this darn usb2 dvb worldbox. It doesn't even seem to
install right if I uninstall the Unknown Device and run through the cd's
installer for software and driver in safemode on windows xp.....

Is the device listed under Device manager??
try "update driver" dont let it search...point it directly to the CD where
the drivers are for the device.
