Hi Ijust Bought some USB to Serial adapters.

when i plug them in they get installed as a Human Interface device, but no
Com port is assign. I need a com port to be able to plug into our cisco
equipment.
How can I get from the HID to a Com Port number?

Thanks

Your USB to Serial device should have come with a driver on CD, check
the manufacturer's site if not. You need to install a driver, otherwise
XP thinks it's a HID (but you already know that). The driver will pick
the next available COM port, usually COM3, and display it in Device
Manager. Unlike most USB devices, you should connect the adapter
_before_ installing the driver.
