USB to Printer bridge/USB to parallel port printer cable

Hi,

I just bought a USB cable to connect my old printer to my laptop..
Normally, this should be very easily to install, but somehow my Window
XP doesn't recognize the USB parallel bridge cable.. I searched th
internet for an answer, and came up with this:

*For Windows 2000 and Windows XP, Microsoft follows IEEE 128
Specification to support standard driver bundled in Windows. When yo
plug in the USB to Parallel cable, Windows 2000 or XP wil
automatically detect the USB to Parallel Bridge cable and will instal
the needed driver.*

My laptop says, that there is an unknown unit connected to th
computer. Where do I get the driver from??? A CD came along with th
cable, where supposely the driver info should be on. But when th
computer searches the CD for driver info, it doesn't find anything.

please HELP! thanks

What I would do in this case is with the cable connected, remove the
unknown device from Device Manager, shut down, disconnect the cable, and
then restart. This takes you back to the starting point. Then, put the
CD into the CD drive, connect the cable, and see if the OS will search
the CD for the correct driver. If you don't feel comfortable with this,
then do not connect the cable, but search the CD for *.inf files, make a
note of the locations. Then connect the cable, and select each of those
*.inf files in turn until the device installs.

Hello my friend
I just had the same problem with my USB printer (HP 1020), and it made me a
great trouble. Even the experts of microsoft and HP couldn't help me to
solve it.

I searched a lot on the internet, and found that there are lots of people
having this problem and all are looking for a good solution, but noone can
help them.

The only one who claimed having been able to solve the problem, was the
person who said he has replaced the cable. I went bought a new cable and
using the new cable, the problem was gone.

I'm almost sure that your problem is with the cable. Try to find a
good-quality cable, and don't forget that all of your USB ports should be
enabled in your bios.

Good luck
Javad
